Fernando Alonso believes he can win this weekend’s European Grand Prix in Valencia.
The Spaniard, returning to race on home soil for the second time this season, thinks that the circuit’s characteristics play to the strengths of the F150th – which it demonstrated at similar tracks like Monaco and Montreal, events at which Alonso believes he was unlucky not to do better.
“I know that our fans are wanting our first victory of the season, us too! In the last two races we have demonstrated clearly that we have the potential to win. And above all, in Monaco we were very close, and also in Canada we could have fought up to the end based on what we had in qualifying,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.com.
“We now go to a track with some very similar characteristics to those of Montreal – our car will be practically the same, the only difference being the debut of the medium compound Pirellis,” he added.
The Spanish sports paper also continues to report on heightened speculation that Jenson Button will join Alonso at Ferrari next season, while the English press seems to suggest he will remain at McLaren.
