What we did last year was train it to Rugby on the Virgin trains (sacrifice worth making )

Then you have to get a separate train from Rugby to Northampton.
Then the best option would be a bus. But beware
a) bus station is a good walk away from the train station
b) normal buses to silverstone end at like 6pm or something like that (mad I know but they are very infrequent)

On the way back Stagecoach put on a bus on Monday morn or Sunday night to the train station from Silverstone village.

How much were/are the train tickets? And do the buses take me direct to Silverstone, or a lot of walking? I might be doing this on my own

Well sadly the train tickets will be alot dearer now than they could have been. The best thing to do is check the Virgin website and buy your tickets. Or here:

I'll be driving this year, last year I had only got my license so had the train tickets already booked etc.

If you get to the BUs station (which is in this shopping centre in Northampton) they do.

Getting to the Silverstone 2009 Grand Prix
27 May 2009

The F1 bus will run from Northampton bus and rail stations on Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June to the Silverstone Grand Prix, and will return each day including Monday 22nd June 2009.

Friday 19th June 2009
From Northampton Bus Station Bay 7 0805 and every hour until 1805
From Northampton Rail Station forecourt 0815 and every hour until 1815
Returning from Silverstone High Street at 0900 and every hour until 1900

Saturday 20th June 2009
From Northampton Bus Station Bay 7 0705 and every hour until 1805
From Northampton Rail Station Forecourt 0715 and every hour until 1815
Returning from Silverstone High Street at 0800 and every hour until 1900

Sunday 21st June 2009
From Northampton Bus Station 0635 and frequent intervals until 1105
From Northampton Rail Station Forecourt 0645 and frequent intervals until 1115
From Silverstone High Street at frequent intervals from approximately 1430 until 1900

Monday 22nd June 2009
From Silverstone High Street to Northampton bus and rail stations at 0930 and 1130

Fares
£10 one way, £14 day return, £32 weekend ticket valid all three days
