What a surprise: fan boys and girls voting for Button. Button's driving has sucked this season. If those who voted for him took a more objective view, they'd see that guys like Hamilton, Raikkonen and Rosberg did far better jobs. Both did well against their team mates, both put in some great performances in average cars that were not the most drivable, and both lead their teams well.

Well. You are being completely ignorant. Jenson Button is World Champion. Simple as. For a driver that has 'Sucked this season' that's pretty interesting isn't it.
I'm no 'Button fan boy' But he has driven that car perfectly all year round. Barely made a mistake. He hasn't gone off track or spun all season because he knew the limits of that car & he pushed them, Unlike some who push beyond what a car can take (i.e. Lewis Hamilton apparently pushing 110% in Monza).

What a completely ignorant comment to make about a world champion.

I know Chris won't see this, but I've only just noticed that he included Rosberg in his list of drivers who did a 'far better job' than Button... Rosberg?!!?

In the middle of the season when Rosberg was driving well I'd agree with Chris. But on the other hand when things went wrong Button didn't make excuses for driving bad or make giant c0ck-ups and then blame the team.

guys lets go back to basics and look at the raw facts of 2009
01 Jenson Button 95
02 Sebastian Vettel 84
03 Rubens Barrichello 77
04 Mark Webber 69.5
05 Lewis Hamilton 49
06 Kimi Räikkönen 48
07 Nico Rosberg 34.5
08 Jarno Trulli 32.5
09 Fernando Alonso 26
10 Timo Glock 24

so the best driver in 2009 as a proven fact is Button!

For all of you who are now going to say "but he had the better car" He may of had the better car but I think being a racing driver is making sure your in the right car at the right time, which Button also did this year.

It's not really fair to claim that Button made sure he was in the best car this year, he was out of F1 until almost the very last minute and was lucky that Brawn had a great car.

Does that work in reverse too? The worst drivers of the year are the ones in poor cars? That seems a bit unfair to me. I think the best driver of the year is the one that gets the most out of their car, whether it happens to be a good one or a bad one. Raikkonen had a great year, despite a less than stellar car, Rosberg scored 34.5 points compared to his team mates' zero, Hamilton scored twice as many points as his team mate. It's not quite as black and white as saying whoever gets the most points was the best driver, at least in my opinion.

It does work in reverse. The drivers in poor cars should of proved themselves to given the opportunity to get a good car. something they have failed to do.

Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen and Alonso have more than proven that they deserve a good car, which is what they probably thought they were getting this year, but then we had the double diffuser debacle. My point is that some of the drivers did prove themselves in poor cars this year and some did well is great cars. I just don't think that looking at points alone tells you the whole story.

maybe Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen and Alonso should of done better at choosing which was the right car to be in this year.

Who in their right mind would move from either McLaren or Ferrari? In the long term those are the two teams that you can rely on to produce good cars. Brawn was a surprise to everyone, I doubt either Button or Barrichello were expecting what happened. Like I said, I don't really think we can credit either of them with picking the right team last year. They really didn't have much of a choice.

I can see where you're coming from. Picking the right team is obviously important but the 2009 season was hardly run of the mill, Brawn shocked us all. But, even if I was factoring good team picking abilities into my decision, it wouldn't be the deciding factor. I'm far more interested in what the drivers produce once they're in the car.
