Vergne confirmed out at Toro Rosso, shame as I thought he had a a good racers feel about him and his results especially given what we've seen with Ricciardo this year were not bad.

Wasn't it the same last year though with JEV ? Got some good results when his seat was under threat, but not so good at the beginning of the season when it's not.

I think that might be a danger of driving with a lower level team for too long, you drive to the expected level of the car and not to the level you are capable of.

Auto123 Rumours about Volkswagen/Audi's potential involvement in F1 are still swirling.

Having recently hired former F1 men Stefano Domenicali and Jörg Zander, Audi is now reportedly considering buying Toro Rosso to race under Lamborghini's name.

According to Italy's Omnicorse, Red Bull would be open to the idea of selling its junior team to a serious company like Audi. The two brands do have a history together, the energy drink company being a sponsor of both Audi and Volkswagen in the DTM and WRC championships.

Lamborghini also has a history in F1 before. It supplied engines to several teams between 1988 and 1993, including its own Modena Team in 1991. At the time, the company was owned by Chrysler. It belongs to the Volkswagen group since 1998.

Ten years! Wow, time totally flies! I clearly remember both Red Bull and then Toro Rosso taking over Jaguar and Minardi respectively.

I miss the Jaguar (awesome looking car IMO) but appreciated RBR saving the team....since it gave DC a second lifeline in F1 after RD dumped his a$$.

Toro Rosso showed flashes of speed in 2014 but all too frequently reliability issues afflicted the team early on and often race pace was lacking. Matters improved across the campaign and so maintaining that momentum and regularly scoring points would mark a successful season. However, that will depend on its driver line-up, which will undoubtedly come in for scrutiny in 2015.

For Max Verstappen, he has to prove that Red Bull's decision to promote him to a race seat at the age of 17, and after just a year of car racing, was the correct one. If he can score points, race calmly and stay out of trouble, people will forget about his age – if you're good enough, you're old enough. In testing he cut an assured figure out on track and in the media glare. It may sound like hype, but he really could be a game-changer. Red Bull was so convinced by him that they signed him to a Toro Rosso race seat when two of its own youngsters were leading GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5 respectively.

Carlos Sainz Jr. is in a slightly different predicament. He's also a rookie, and also the son of a famous driver and consequently there will be pressure, but the clamour around Verstappen may enable Sainz Jr. to operate under a dimmer spotlight – a more favourable proposition. Nonetheless, Sainz Jr. has to prove that Red Bull was wrong to initially overlook him for a 2015 seat and show that he deserves his place on the grid.

Toro Rosso's official launch of their 2016 is pencilled in for 29 February and it took to the circuit on Monday for the first day of pre-season testing sporting plain blue livery.

The STR11's most significant change is the switch from Renault to Ferrari power units.

There's good news and bad news for Toro Rosso going into 2016. The good -- it has retained one of the most exciting driver pairings on the grid in Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz while securing Ferrari power units which kept it on the grid. The bad -- those engines will be a year old. It's not fair to look at Manor bringing up the rear in 2015 with a year-old Ferrari engine as a comparison; Ferrari took a huge step between 2014 and 2015 and Manor was a team with limited resources and zero upgrades through the year. However, the drawbacks of the delayed engine deal are already clear -- the team will run with a temporary testing livery in the opening Barcelona test because it is behind schedule. The team is also likely to see a drop off in performance as its rivals receive upgraded power units through the year but the big question is whether the 2015-spec Ferrari is better than the new Renault power unit in Australia. However, as evidenced by its lock out of the third row in Spain last year, Toro Rosso has a very gifted design team and will start the new season with an engine some said was level with Mercedes on power output by Abu Dhabi.
